The watershed is the area of land that drains into Port Royal Sound. It includes forests, wetlands, communities, roads, and agricultural land connected by streams and tidal waters. The way we use and manage this land has a significant impact on the health of the Sound.
Port Royal Sound Foundation monitors changing land use and land cover using aerial photography and satellite imagery. Tracking where natural cover is conserved or converted helps us understand changes in the Sound and identify opportunities to conserve forests, wetlands, and marshes.
